Venues of the district class Erfurt-Thuringia 1939/40 (red = relay west / blue = relay south / green = relay champion) |
The district class Erfurt-Thuringia 1939/40 was the seventh season of the second-class district class Thuringia, which served as a substructure for the Gauliga Mitte (Gau VI) . Again, a total of eleven clubs took part in the game, but for the first time spread over two seasons. In addition to the two promoters from the Thuringian district, the district champion of the Coburg district , VfL 07 Neustadt / Coburg , who previously failed in Bavaria because of the Gauliga promotion there, was also included. Nationwide in German sport, now adapted to the situation, so-called "war championships" were not officially played until December 1939, so also in football, which resulted in new relay divisions and also other diverse upheavals and restrictions. The district class of Thuringia determined its title holder for the first time, as already mentioned above, by means of two relays, ( West [5] and South [6] ).
The SC Apolda won the season West , the SV 08 Steinach the Season South . Since all the clubs in the South Squadron did not want to be promoted, the Apolda team were allowed to take part in the promotion round to the Gauliga in mid-1940/ 41, which was then successfully contested. The game committee then agreed to allow all five district champions ( the Osterland district waived) to be promoted to the next year's district class without the need for promotion relegation. There was also no relegation regulation. The number of clubs in both seasons increased to eight each for the next season. In addition, the application of the TSV Wildenheid , actually belonging to the Gau Bavaria (Gau XVI), due to the spatial proximity to Sonneberg, to be accepted into the Gau Mitte. The club from Northern Bavaria was hereby classified as the 16th team member for the 1940/41 season in the second Thuringian football class .
