The Gauliga middle 1939/40 was the seventh season of the Gauliga middle as the top division of the Gau middle (Gau VI). After 3 years of dominance in Dessau, the title crown of the 1st "Gauliga War Championship" was secured once again by the 1st SV 03 Jena - and that extremely impressively, with ten points ahead of their big rival from Anhalt. But Jena also failed early in the group stage in the final round of the German championship . After the outbreak of the Second World War , local bridging rounds were initially played before the game in the Gauliga Mitteon November 26, 1939. Due to the war-related shortage of personnel and the geographical southern location, SV 08 Steinach withdrew from the Gauliga before the season. 1. FC 07 Lauscha also refrained from participating (both of them also urged to do so by the association). The relegation ranks were clearly occupied by SV Merseburg 99 and FV Sportfreunde Halle . The SpVg Zeitz 1910 and the SC 1910 Apolda then rose from the district classes for the first time .
