Venues for the Halle-Merseburg district class 1940/41
(blue = champions / yellow = relegated)

The 1st class Halle-Merseburg 1940/41 was the eighth season of the second-class district class Halle-Merseburg , which has been the substructure for the Gauliga Mitte (Gau VI) since 1933 . After two unsuccessful attempts, the famous FC Wacker Halle 1900 was the champion of the first "war championship" in the district . In the end, the lead over the extremely convincing newcomer from Mockrehna was a respectable 7 plus points. The FV-Sportfreunde from Halle completed the leading table triumvirate. The game year 1940/41 was played with ten participating clubs, because there were two relegated regions in the region from the Gauliga in the previous season and the season could thus be increased by one colleague. Established clubs formed the solid mid-table. The second climber, the Preußen 01 from Merseburg, landed on a good seventh place and escaped the fight to keep the class early on. This was fiercely fought until the end, as it was not clear whether the title holder would later prevail in the relegation competition for the Gauliga promotion. Since FC Wacker 1900 then secured a place in the upper house, the respected SV Merseburg 99 , even relegated from the elite class last year, rather happily escaped double relegation to the district class, which was now called 2nd class Halle-Merseburg . So only the "Tuspo" Leuna had to leave the league in 1919 after two relatively successful district class years. Two clubs, which left the class up and down, faced two new clubs as promoted teams. In the usual relegation round of the district champions that followed the regular season, the (Luftwaffe-Sport-Miitärverein) LSV Nordhausen and SV Union Sandersdorf prevailed confidently against their opponents and completed the starter field for the third season of the war championship 1941/42.
