About this picture

Mockrehna is a municipality in the district of North Saxony in the Free State of Saxony . It is one of the largest municipalities in the district in terms of area.

Local division

history

Several districts are in 1201 in a deed of ownership of the Augustinian monastery on the Petersberg near Halle by Pope Innocent III. first mentioned. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the area became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Torgau district. In the course of the Saxon municipal reform, the previously independent municipalities of Audenhain, Langenreichenbach and Klitzschen merged to form the large municipality of Audenhain on March 1, 1994, which merged with Mockrehna, Schöna, Strelln, Wildenhain and Wildschütz to form the current municipality of Mockrehna on January 1, 1999.

The name of the place Mockrehna, as part of the municipality Mockrehna, has its origin in the Slavic Mokrechna (dt .: swamp landscape) and describes the conditions of the settlement by Slavic tribes. Remnants of this moor landscape are still present in the “Zadlitzbruch” and the “Wildenhainer Bruch” in the nearby “ Dübener Heide ” nature reserve . In the course of time, the area between the Mulde and Elbe was systematically drained, so that today in the area around Mockrehna the focus is on land use by agriculture and forestry.

Mockrehna gained a certain fame in large parts of the GDR through the establishment of a large slaughterhouse for poultry by the Industrial Fattening Combine (KIM), today Alfra Geflügel- und Tiefkühlfeinkost GmbH, in 1972, which is responsible for supplying the southern districts of the Republic ( GDR ) with poultry products (mainly broilers ). This settlement led to the construction of a prefabricated housing estate with 170 residential units and the development of areas for the construction of private homes. The resulting change in the structure of buildings and residents led to the loss of the previously strongly village-like character of the place. Only the lower village with its traditional three-sided courtyards still reflects this. However, there has also been a decline in domestic livestock and agricultural use of these buildings.

education

An important part of the community is the primary and secondary school location in the Mockrehna district, which was founded in 1960 as the Georg Schumann High School. By the end of 2011, the school had been newly built, converted and expanded for around twelve million euros, partly from ERDF and state funds. In addition to the middle school, which was renovated, a two-field sports hall, an extension and a connecting structure were built. 370 high school students (former middle school) and 164 primary school students (2012/13) are studying in Mockrehna today .

Memorials

A grave in the cemetery in the Klitzschen district commemorates the communist Nazi opponent Otto Hennicke , who was murdered by the Gestapo in Halle in 1942 .
