Audenhain is a district of the municipality Mockrehna in the district of Northern Saxony (Saxony).

The town of Audenhain is located southeast of the main town of Mockrehna between the towns of Eilenburg and Torgau on state roads 16 and 20 . The federal highway 87 and the Halle – Cottbus railway line run north of the village . Beyond the railway line, the Dübener Heide nature park begins .

The village is divided into Oberaudenhain, Niederaudenhain and the town center and, with a length of about seven kilometers, is one of the longest villages in Saxony. The Schwarze Graben flows through the village and is spanned by a total of 88 bridges in the village.

history

Audenhain was first mentioned in a document in 1314. On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipalities of Ober- and Niederaudenhain were merged to form the new municipality of Audenhain. On March 1, 1994, Klitzschen and Langenreichenbach were incorporated into Audenhain. On January 1, 1999, Audenhain was incorporated into the Mockrehna community with four other communities.

Attractions

Paltrock windmill : The Audenhainer windmill was first mentioned in 1751 and was originally a post windmill . It wasn't until 1938 that it was converted into a Paltrock windmill and remained in operation until 1996. It was renovated in 1991/1993 and has been operating the wing again since then. Today it can be viewed as a technical monument because of the completely preserved grinding and grist technology. There are regular exhibitions in the mill room.

Culture

Audenhain has a local and cultural association that organizes the bridge festival every year, a sports club, a pedigree poultry breeding club, a rifle club and the marching band of the volunteer fire brigade .
