Torfhaus is a settlement area in the Wildenhain district of the municipality of Mockrehna in the district of North Saxony (Saxony).

geography

The place Torfhaus is located northwest of the main town Mockrehna in the Dübener Heide in the area between Eilenburg , Bad Düben and Torgau . The federal highway 183 runs north of the village . Torfhaus is located in the Presseler Heidewald- und Moorgebiet nature reserve with a size of about 6570 hectares. The nature trail leads directly to Torfhaus and the Winkelmühler ant trail one kilometer to the west.

history

Torfhaus was created around 1793 as a settlement for peat farmers from the nearby Wildenhainer Bruch , whose operation was discontinued in 1854. In 1966 the area was placed under nature protection. In 1929 Torfhaus came to the community of Wildenhain and in 1999 together with Wildenhain to the community of Mockrehna. In 1855 22 people lived in Torfhaus.
