history
Beilrode was created in 1938 through the merger of the two independent villages Zeckritz and Zschackau, in the context of which the two Sorbian place names disappeared as part of the National Socialist Germanization policy because they did not continue to exist as districts. The newly created name "Beilrode" was based on the old name Zeckritz, which probably comes from the Sorbian word for "ax, hatchet", cf. Upper Sorbian sekera .
After 1990 the village of Döbrichau was also incorporated into the B87 in the direction of Herzberg / Elster .
The voluntary fire brigade in Beilrode celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2006.
The windmill in the Zschackau district was destroyed by a storm on December 4, 1779.
On January 1, 2011, the two communities of Beilrode and Großtreben-Zwethau merged to form the new community of Beilrode, which now has eleven districts.

Holländermühle Beilrode : The Holländerwindmühle is a tower windmill ; it was built in 1870. In 1908 it was converted to an electric drive and a roller mill was installed. There were further modernizations in 1945 and in the mid-1950s. The damage caused at the end of the Second World War, which is still reminiscent of some visible bullet holes, was also removed. The mill remained in operation until 1978. It has been a tourist attraction since 2002 as a fully functional windmill. With its five floors, it is one of the tallest windmills in Saxony.
