Heinz Schubert (actor)
Heinz Schubert (born November 12, 1925 in Berlin ; † February 12, 1999 in Hamburg ) was a German actor , acting teacher and photographer . He gained fame through the character of "Disgust" Alfred Tetzlaff in the television series A Heart and a Soul .
Life
Early years
As a member of the Volkssturm, the son of a master tailor was taken prisoner by the British at the end of World War II . Immediately after completing an apprenticeship as a tailor, he began training as an actor in Berlin. In 1951 Bertolt Brecht brought him to his Berlin ensemble , with whom Schubert stayed until the Berlin Wall was built in 1961. In Germany he worked from 1961 both as a theater actor (including in Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Berlin) and as an acting teacher, initially as a lecturer and later as a professor at the Hamburg University of Music and Performing Arts.
Schubert made his debut as a film actor as early as 1958. At first he worked for DEFA productions and played the role of Schweizererkas in the film version of the Brecht drama Mother Courage and Her Children , which he had often given at the Berliner Ensemble, as well as in fairy tale films and in the popular Stacheltier series. In the DEFA comedy On the Sunny Side, produced in 1961 (director: Ralf Kirsten , with Manfred Krug and Marita Böhme ), Schubert already played Brigadier Schnepf in disgusting Alfred fashion.
relocation
After moving to the Federal Republic in 1961, he also played in television productions. From 1973 the personification of the disgust Alfred made him popular. In the satirical WDR television series A heart and soul of Wolfgang amount he played as Alfred Tetzlaff a caricature of the right-wing conservative philistine and family tyrant. The series, based on the British model Till Death Us Do Part by Johnny Speight , caused numerous television scandals due to its themes and vocabulary, but it developed into a crowd puller.
He proved his versatility, among other things, through his highly acclaimed portrayal of Hajji Halef Omar in the 26-part ZDF television series Kara Ben Nemsi Effendi (1973–1975) based on Karl May , with Karl-Michael Vogler , Hans Epskamp and Joachim Regelien , as well as through Leading roles in films such as Der stark Ferdinand (director: Alexander Kluge ) and Hitler, a film from Germany in which he played both Adolf Hitler and Heinrich Himmler under the direction of Hans-Jürgen Syberberg . In addition to Michael Caine , Schubert played in the British agent film Finale in Berlin , dubbed by Rolf Schult in the German version . Schubert took on continuous or recurring roles in television series, such as that of private detective Fetzer in Detective Office Roth and that of auditor Dr. Fink in the ZDF multi-part series Der große Bellheim by Dieter Wedel .
In 1996 he played the lead role again in a series by Wolfgang Quantity in With One Leg in the Grave . The German adaptation of the successful British BBC series One Foot in the Grave by David Renwick again contained the caricature of a petty bourgeoisie with Viktor Bölkhoff , played by Schubert . In contrast to One Heart and One Soul , he did not embody a family tyrant, but an early retired curmudgeon, who is also played badly by those around him.
In addition to his work as an actor, Schubert devoted himself to photography. His numerous photos of various shop windows and mannequins, with which he was also represented at documenta 6 in Kassel in 1977, became particularly well known . In 1979 he published the illustrated book Theater im Schaufenster with black and white and color photos.
For his artistic work, Schubert was awarded the Golden Camera in 1993. In 1994, together with Dieter Wedel, Will Quadflieg , Hans Korte and Mario Adorf, he received the Grimme Prize with gold for The Great Bellheim . He died on February 12, 1999 at the age of 73 from pneumonia in Hamburg, where he also worked as an acting teacher for many years. Schubert is buried in the cemetery of the Friesenkapelle in Wenningstedt (Sylt) . His wife Ilse Schubert died on October 13, 2017 at the age of 86 in Wenningstedt (Sylt).
