occupation

Detective Agency Roth was a German-language television crime series , produced between 1984 and 1986 for Westdeutsche Werbefernsehen (WWF) under the leadership of WDR , NDR and SFB . There were 35 episodes that take place irregularly in Berlin , Duisburg and Hamburg . For the DVD release, the episodes were subsequently split into two seasons. The series was first broadcast on April 17, 1986.

Episodes 1 to 23 can be viewed as the first TV season produced. Episodes 10 to 17 of this were produced by the NDR and accordingly also play in Hamburg and the surrounding area. After episode 23 Klaus Löwitsch got out as detective Albertöffelhardt and got his own series ( Hafendetektiv ), in which, however, he competes under the name Stepanek . Episodes 24 to 35 were produced in 1985/86 (6 per year) and received another private detective in Heinz Schubert (as Egon Fetzer ) - alongside Bruno Roth - with "rough edges". 1986 (from episode 30) Ilja Richter also joined the series as Heinz Knappstadt , while Hildegard Krekel had her last appearance as Irene in episode 29.

action

Bruno Roth runs the Roth detective agency in an old villa in Berlin-Lichterfelde, together with Olga, the wife of his deceased brother, their son Uli and his girlfriend Ricarda. He investigates cases of industrial espionage, insurance fraud, sabotage, drug offenses, inheritance sneaking or art forgery. Bruno Roth is a clever, self-confident and profit-conscious man who only takes on worthwhile cases. The Duisburg detective agency ,öffelhardt, is different. Albertöffelhardt lives in an old corner shop. Because he constantly has to fight for his existence, he accepts any case. If the regions of both detective agencies overlap, they are forced to work together, even if conflicts arise again and again. A kind of rivalry develops between the two detective agencies, because despite their friendship they keep getting in each other's way, intentionally or unintentionally. At some point it will be too much for Löffelhardt and he will disappear from the scene. Egon Fetzer takes over his shop (episodes 24-35) in order to finally bring it to success and to found a detective academy. His first "student" is Knappstatt, who previously studied theology and law before he decided to become a detective.

Trivia

The crime series Liebling Kreuzberg ran in parallel for a time and also had Manfred Krug in the eponymous leading role, but not as a detective, but as a lawyer. As a result, for once in vain from Liebling Kreuzberg , lawyer Arnold recommends the Roth detective agency to a client in order to find her lover, and immediately adds: "It was just a stupid joke."

Klaus Löwitsch's character reappears in Duisburg as an offshoot under the new name Stepanek in the series Hafendetektiv .
