The Schnakenpohl nature reserve is located in the town of Rahden in the Minden-Lübbecke district . It is around 6.6  hectares and is listed under the designation MI-031. It is also designated as an FFH area with the number DE-3517-301.

It is located in the west of the village of Varl , southwest of the location between the state road 557 in the north and the state road 770 in the south.

The water is a naturally formed pond that is only slightly eutrophied . The near-natural vegetation of heather and moorland habitats is characteristic . The occurrence of the rare swamp St. John's wort is significant . The Schnakenpohl is an important stepping stone biotope for the surrounding FFH areas Oppenweher Moor and Weißes Moor .

The nature reserve was designated as early as 1936, making it the second oldest in the Minden-Lübbecke district and one of the oldest in Westphalia .
