Finkenburg (nature reserve)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Finkenburg nature reserve is located in the town of Lübbecke in the Minden-Lübbecke district in the Obermehnen district immediately north of the Vierlinden settlement . It is approximately 12.99 acres and is listed under the designation MI-018. The area is also called Finkenmoor . In earlier times the area was also popularly called Tonberg , referring to the fact that the clay for a brickworks located there was mined there.

It is located south of the federal highway 65 between the Blasheim district of the city of Lübbecke and the city center on the northern edge of the Wiehen Mountains , but is itself already part of the Lübbecker Loessland .

meaning

The protection is given because of the rarity and the special character of the area and for the preservation and restoration of communities as a refuge for threatened and endangered wild animal and plant species .

The biotope complex created from a former clay pit needs special protection . This complex consists, for example, of still waters , reed beds , ruderal fields and an orchard . This biotope structure is of particular importance for butterflies , grasshoppers , dragonflies and amphibians . The area is also a hunting area for bats .

Visiting opportunities

In fact, the nature reserve is hardly accessible, as no farm or forest paths lead into the small area. In addition, the area with dense undergrowth is passed and also strongly cut through. The few paths often end as a dead end. Regardless of this, the signs on the edge of the area prohibit entry. In the meantime, the area can be almost completely circumnavigated on dirt roads - but the dense vegetation prevents further insights from here.
