The Rethlage nature reserve is located in the municipality of Stemwede in the Minden-Lübbecke district . It is around 42.9 hectares and is listed under the designation MI-005.

It is located east of the Destel district of the municipality of Stemwede and west of the Vehlage district of the city of Espelkamp . The land is owned by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .

In the natural area of ​​the Rahden-Diepenauer Geest , the Rethlage is an elongated forest area. In addition to the formative alder forest , English oak , ash and birch can be found. The nature reserve is home to many flowering and fern plants. Many of these typical types of wetlands are classified as endangered in the Red List of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. These include the lung gentian , the swamp blood eye and the water feather .
