Ellerburger meadows

The Ellerburger Wiesen nature reserve is located in the town of Preußisch Oldendorf and, to a lesser extent, in the town of Espelkamp in the East Westphalian district of Minden-Lübbecke . It is around 88  hectares and is listed under the designation MI-007.

It is almost entirely in the north of the Hedem district of Preußisch Oldendorf, southwest of the Fiestel district of the city of Espelkamp between the state road 766 and the Mittelland Canal and is crossed by the Große Aue .

The Ellerburg borders directly on the north-western part of the nature reserve. The area consists largely of former agricultural land of the property, which today is a biotope complex of u. a. form moist to wet grassland areas , alluvial forests , field trees and small still and flowing waters . The predominant part is made up of wet meadows , which are extensively managed through grazing and mowing in order to counteract succession .

The protection is given because of the rarity and special nature of the area and for the preservation and restoration of communities as a refuge for threatened and endangered wild animal and plant species .
