Shortly before Biggi's 21st birthday, she falls in love with the manager from the clothing industry, Jochen. However, she is unable to admit this to her father. The young couple want to get married, but the father is unsuspecting. After the untimely death of his wife and Biggi's mother, he focused his entire life on bringing up the girl. Father and daughter even spend their everyday professional life together, because Biggi is his doctor's assistant. Biggi’s only confidante in this matter will be her godfather dentist Dr. Walther. On Biggi's 21st birthday, the day she comes of age , Biggi wants to inform her father about the upcoming wedding. But neither you nor Dr. Walther wants to do this. Instead, Father Stegemann happened to witness a phone call from Jochen who wanted to take Biggi to Rio de Janeiro after the wedding , where he was supposed to take on a new position. From this phone call, Father Stegemann learns that his daughter wants to get married and also wants to live in Brazil . The father is bitterly disappointed.

But Stegemann doesn't want to give up his daughter that easily. He hires a detective to find out black points in Jochen's life. He actually observed women visiting Jochen at night. When Stegemann confronts his daughter with it, he has to find out that Biggi was this nightly lady visit. Enraged by her father's distrust, she leaves her father's house and moves in with Jochen. Stegemann stays behind with housekeeper Winkler.

Now Stegemann has to use harder methods. He hires the barmaid Marion, who pretends to be his girlfriend. Stegemann develops into an alleged bon vivant. Biggi and Jochen learn from Ms. Winkler that he is neglecting his work and about his father's new lifestyle. Biggi and Jochen watch their father and are convinced of his new way of life. When Biggi hears about big expenses and planned borrowings from the father, she leaves Jochen and returns home.

But life together has changed. Dr. Stegemann has to find out how sad he made his daughter with his actions, even though he only wished the best for her. One evening he goes to see Jochen with two bottles of whiskey and gets to know his future son-in-law better in a drinking bout. After all, he no longer has anything against getting married. The couple get married and invite their father to go on a Christmas boat trip to Rio.

Reviews

“A widowed father thwarts his daughter's wedding by all means, only to finally submit to the inevitable. Comedy with few ideas. "

“A father has to come to terms with the fact that his carefully cherished daughter has fledged. Comedy set in a discreet luxury setting, whose humor and amiability are carried by Heinz Rühmann. As a light meal from 16. "
