Das Großstadtrevier is a German television series that is broadcast on Erste . It has been produced by Studio Hamburg since May 1984 and currently comprises 452 episodes in 33 seasons. The first episode aired on December 16, 1986.

action

Everyday police work in the Hamburg district of St. Pauli and in the Kiez is shown , with the focus on the officers of the fictitious 14th Police Commissioner / PK14 (up to Season 23, 14th Police Station ). The plot essentially consists of three parts.

On the one hand, from the area of everyday police work with mainly minor offenses such as theft , neighborhood disputes, traffic offenses, family disputes, etc., the often unbureaucratic and interpersonal help of the officials, especially when it comes to older citizens, children and the homeless, is almost a matter of course of the work.

There is also the area around the Kiez and Reeperbahn , where the officials primarily deal with prostitution , human trafficking, drugs and violence, but also deal with the concerns of the people who live and work there. For this purpose, real localities such as B. the travesty cabaret powder keg and the box pub Zur Ritze . When working around the Reeperbahn, Dirk Matthies' numerous contacts in the Kiez often prove to be very helpful.

The third sub-area is the private life of the PK14 police officers and their togetherness at work, true to the motto one for all, all for one . Here the cohesion and the familiar way of dealing with each other are particularly emphasized, this becomes clear through joint trips to the country and the joint after-work beer in the local pub Big Harry (previously at Elli's). The civil servants' private activities, which now and then also end up as business matters, are often part of the series.

Larger crimes, such as murder , hostage-taking , and robbery are occasionally discussed.

Locations

Since season 33, the interior shots and the entrance to the commissioner's office have been filmed in Studio Hamburg Atelier 3 in the Hamburg district of Tonndorf. The exterior shots take place in front of the archway at Elsässer Straße 20/22.

Previously, the district was located in a building on Mendelssohnstrasse / corner Paul-Dessau-Strasse, Hamburg-Bahrenfeld. The red brick building, which also housed the offices of / Studio Hamburg Produktion GmbH (which produced the metropolitan area up to and including the 32nd season) outside of shooting times, was used for both indoor and outdoor shots.

In episodes 1 to 28, the real police station 12 (today a branch of the police station 14), Klingberg 1 in 20095 Hamburg (next to the Chilehaus) was used for the exterior shots. The sign with the inscription "Polizeirevier 12" was pasted over accordingly.

Other recurring main locations are the Reeperbahn , Sankt Michaelis , the Sankt-Josefs-Kirche in St. Pauli and the St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken . Some episodes take place outside Hamburg, so the 300th episode (broadcast under the episode title 5 after 12 on January 10, 2011) was filmed in Bad Segeberg against the backdrop of the open-air theater on Kalkberg , where the Karl May Games usually take place and was laid out as a western . In addition, three episodes were filmed at Gut Rundhof in the Gasthof Weißer Hirsch . The episode Fährmann hol'röver was filmed on the North Sea island of Neuwerk , part of the Hamburg-Mitte district .

Another special location was the former Repsold fireboat , which is used for excursions on the Lower and Upper Elbe . In the metropolitan area, the Repsold served Dirk Matthies ( Jan Fedder ) as a barge for eight years .

Trivia

  • In the first episode, Karl-Heinz Hess has a guest appearance as police chief and connects the metropolitan area with the previous series Police Radio calls and Hamburg Transit .
  • Ellen Wegener (played by Mareike Carrière) was the first female police officer in the metropolitan area. At the end of season 7 she accepts a marriage proposal from colleague Dirk Matthies (Jan Fedder), but dies in episode 62 (Ellen's farewell 2) ; in episode 61 (Ellen's farewell 1) , a pharmacist, the mistress of a murder suspect, had given her a poisoned tea.
  • Jan Fedder first appeared in the series as a police reporter before becoming Dirk Matthies Wegener's new colleague on the strip in episode 37 (season 6). In addition, in episode 3 he made a guest appearance as the noisy tenant Holger Pohl, and in episode 34 he hit his car against the wall as an accident driver. In episode 243 (season 21), Matthies reluctantly succeeded district manager Bernd Voss (Wilfried Dziallas), who was retiring. Before that, Matthies had become unfit for field service due to a stiff leg caused by a gunshot wound. In the 23rd season he voluntarily vacated the executive chair for Ms. Küppers ( Saskia Fischer ), who thus became head of the new police station 14; After a successful ReHa, Matthies himself is now doing his beloved patrol duty again. After Matthies shot a boy while on duty at the beginning of season 27 and wanted to quit his job, Ms. Küppers made him an offer to become a milieu investigator, which he accepted.
  • Kay Sabban , who played the motorcycle policeman Neidhardt Koehler, died of a pulmonary embolism while filming the 55th episode (Zapfenstreich) . In his honor, the role of motorcycle policeman was never again cast.
  • The figure of Lothar Krüger was portrayed by two different actors (1986–1993 by Mischa Neutze , 1995–2010 by Peter Heinrich Brix (from episode 85: The radio message )). However, Lothar Krüger was only relevant in episodes 1 to 35 (after that Neutze served more as an extra) and when the role was later taken over by Peter Heinrich Brix. It is not entirely clear whether the character played by Peter Heinrich Brix is identical to that played by Mischa Neutze.
  • Peter Heinrich Brix , Wilfried Dziallas , Till Demtrøder , Maria Ketikidou , Jens Münchow , Tommaso Cacciapuoti , Wanda Perdelwitz and Saskia Fischer also had guest appearances in the metropolitan area before they became part of the regular cast. Wilfried Dziallas, Peter Heinrich Brix and Jens Münchow also after they left the regular cast.
  • The director Jürgen Roland and the band Truck Stop , who sings the theme song, can also be seen in guest appearances.
  • The stories of the NDR series Neues aus Büttenwarder , in which Peter Heinrich Brix and Jan Fedder also play the leading roles , come from the pen of Norbert Eberlein , who wrote the books for some episodes . Guido Pieters took over the direction here as well .
  • Lutz Mackensy was seen for the first time in episode 3, but up to episode 32 he was the criminal investigation officer Christian "Chris" Lang, only from episode 36 he became Kriminalrat (later Kriminaloberrat) Iversen. However, his character was the same from the first appearance. In episode 219 he got out and took part in a total of 86 episodes.
  • Since the beginning of the 21st season (2007), the police in the 14th district have been wearing new (blue) uniforms and have new patrol cars (also blue).
  • Ms. Küppers' first name is not mentioned in any episode, her mother calls her "Rübchen" (episodes 286, 356 and 372). Between season 22 and season 23 there was a best of compilation from previous seasons under the title Neues aus dem Großstadtrevier . In the synopsis of said program, the first name of Ms. Küppers is given as Regina, as well as in the role description on the ARD website for the series. In episode 428, Hannes Krabbe finds a piece of paper with the signature "R. Küppers" and is obviously observed knowingly by Mrs. Küppers. [1] According to the cast list for the episode Hallo Chef in NDR Teletext from May 28, 2016 and on the NDR website, her first name is Margret.
  • In the episode Mother's Day , which belongs to season 23, Ms. Küppers ( Saskia Fischer ) receives a visit from her mother Renate ( Nicole Heesters ). Actresses Nicole Heesters and Saskia Fischer are mother and daughter in real life too.
  • Jan Fedder, Anja Nejarri and Jens Münchow are the only actors who have had a double role in one episode each. In the episode The Double Matthies, Jan Fedder also plays an unsuccessful actor who causes chaos. In the episode Fallen Angels, Anja Nejarri mimes the corpse of a woman who died in a traffic accident in addition to her role as Katja Metz. In the episode The Crown Witness , Jens Münchow also plays a mafioso in addition to his regular role.
  • Jan Fedder can be seen for the last time in episode 447 Key Moments. But his role Dirk Matthies does not leave the series until episode 452 absolute beginner . This unusual situation arose because Jan Fedder was not available for the last episodes of the 33rd season. An ankle injury forced him to take a long break from filming. During this break in filming, however, Jan Fedder died unexpectedly on December 30, 2019. Originally, his departure was only to be incorporated into the series at the beginning of the 34th season. However, it was decided to comply with the wish of the audience, to say goodbye to Jan Fedder in the current 33rd season. As a result, some scenes were reproduced in February 2020, which were then incorporated into the already completed episode 452.
  • The 33rd season of the metropolitan area ended prematurely with episode 452 absolute beginners . This episode was the farewell episode for Jan Fedder's longstanding lead role, Dirk Matthies. The planned double episode Ms. Küppers and the Death, which was originally announced to be broadcast in May 2020, is now to be broadcast as the start of the 34th season in autumn 2020.
  • The ARD temporarily changed the broadcasting time, which led to a drop in ratings. In the meantime, the series has been moved back to its original place in the previous evening program (6:50 p.m.). The first called the metropolitan area the mother of all police series.
  • Grossmouthrevier was a parody of Großstadtrevier that was shown regularly in the episodes of the 2011 skit show Dennis and Jesko .
  • Several police officers who work as extras in the series are real Hamburg police officers .
  • The series emergency vehicles are mostly models of the BMW 5 series . Over time, the E12 , E34 , E39 , E60 and F10 series were used. A Ford was often used in the early episodes.
  • In 2009 the metropolitan area was also sold to the Italian television RAI UNO. There the series ran for some time in the morning under the title 14 ° Distretto .

literature

In September 2007, a pocket booklet on the series was published under the title Chefsache . Originally, the issues were supposed to appear annually, but the series was discontinued after the first volume. Unsold copies were still available in 2009.

Two years later, in September 2009, another paperback was published with the title The 14th Revier . The slim book was written by Matthias Röhe and provided with photos of the set and the actors. The entrance to Revier 14 can be seen as the cover picture.

The paperback Peter 14/2 has been on patrol since October 2010 . It represents the updated version of the book Das 14. Revier by Matthias Röhe. The emergency vehicle with radio call name Peter 14/2 is placed on the cover.

In July 2011 the book Die Kultbullen from Hamburg was published (Success in series: The metropolitan area celebrates 25 years), a reference work on Germany's oldest police series. All leading actors from 1986 to 2011 are presented, deaths from the past 25 years are outlined and the book contains an extensive series of photos. Interviews with actors, a list of prominent actors, the exact locations and mistakes in the film can be found in the book.

The book Moving to the new 14th Commissariat , published in April 2020, deals with the last day of shooting at the location in Mendelsohnstrasse with a series of photos from the set, gives an overview of the previous leading actors and introduces the new 14th Commissariat on the premises of Studio Hamburg.
