Diether cancer
Diether Krebs (born August 11, 1947 in Essen , † January 4, 2000 in Hamburg ) was a German actor , cabaret artist and comedian .
Life and professional history
Youth and first successes
During his school days at the Humboldt-Gymnasium in Essen , the son of a stationery dealer gained his first theater experience. Krebs completed an acting training at the Folkwang University in Essen-Werden. He had his first engagement at the theater in Oberhausen . Smaller film roles followed. Among these, his appearance in Zoff (1971) was particularly noteworthy - in addition to later famous actors such as Jürgen Prochnow and Claus Theo Gärtner .
From 1973 onwards, Krebs gained attention in Wolfgang Menge's television series Ein Herz und ein Seele through his role as the cheeky “Sozi” son-in-law “Michael Graf” from “Alfred Tetzlaff” ( Heinz Schubert ). His girlfriend at the time, Hildegard Krekel, played his wife and had brought him to this role. Because of disagreements with the producing WDR he got out of the series together with disgusting Alfred-wife Elisabeth Wiedemann in 1974, whereupon the production of the second season of the series was stopped after only four follow-up broadcasts due to low ratings.
In the following years, Krebs was present on the screen in numerous roles, both in light entertainment series and in demanding television games: In 1975 Peter Zadek brought him in front of the television camera for Eiszeit , alongside Heinz Bennent , Hannelore Hoger and Hermann Lause ; In 1980 he played a leading role alongside Eberhard Feik in Die Judenbuche based on the story by Annette von Droste-Hülshoff .
The crime drama actor
In 1978 the actor moved to the crime thriller department: for eight years (1978 to 1986), alongside Werner Kreindl and Bernd Herzsprung, he played the always grumpy detective chief "Dieter Herle" in the SOKO 5113 series . An appearance as a crime scene commissioner in 1979 remained in one episode; only once embodied Diether cancer as a result all in vain , directed by Hartmut Griesmayr the investigators nail. As a guest star, however, he was seen more often in the crime scene, later also in Polizeiruf 110 and in Der Alte .
The comedian and cabaret artist
Krebs was more successful as a cabaret artist and comedian: in 1981, alongside Beatrice Richter and Klaus Havenstein, he was part of the regular cast of Rudi's daily show by and with Rudi Carrell . The parody of the Tagesschau with many political allusions generated controversy on several occasions. This series also left Krebs because of disagreements with the producing station. He achieved cult status with the comedy series Sketchup, which was produced from 1984 to 1986 . First with Beatrice Richter , later with Iris Berben as a partner, the actor impressed as a versatile comedian in changing roles and costumes. Even abroad, such as in Belgium , was Sketchup very popular. In 1990 he started his sketch show Voll besides - Gags with Diether Krebs . With series such as Knastmusik (1989, inter alia with Rolf Zacher ) and Lauter neat neighbors (1990, inter alia with Diana Körner ), Krebs consolidated his reputation as a comedian.
The actor, singer and presenter
In the following years Diether Krebs shuttled almost seamlessly between clothes and quality: In 1986 he made a brief appearance as the hairdresser “Hubsi” in Helmut Dietl's successful multi-part series Kir Royal . In 1992 he took on a role in the disaster film satire Moebius by Matti Geschonneck . In between he acted in a supporting role as truck driver "Harry" in the turning comedy Go Trabi Go by Peter Timm in 1991 . In the same year he stormed the German charts as a singer: As a simple-minded eco-freak Martin in a self-knitted reindeer sweater with shaggy hair, he became a cult figure for some time and continued to embody this character in stage appearances. Together with Gundula with Ich bin der Martin, ne (Martin My Love) in 1991 it was number 3 on the German charts, the successor title Santamarghuaritanobiledimontepulciano - Du little fishing village still reached number 23. a. since 1996 the New Year's Eve gala of the MDR and in 1999, together with Tom Pauls, the awarding of the " Golden Hen ", the media prize of the illustrated Superillu and Super TV , also on the MDR.
Difficult years and comeback
Cancer's last years were marked by declining success and serious illness. His RTL show ROST - Die Diether-Krebs-Show (1993, inter alia with Hugo Egon Balder ), in which he played three roles at the same time, was canceled after 13 episodes. The Sat.1 comedy series Der Dicke und der Belgier with Belgian comedian Carry Goossens was also discontinued in 1998 due to poor quota. At the time, the actor was seriously ill and had to undergo lung surgery. During this time, Krebs developed a new stage character: "Herr Krups" (in personal union with "Mutti Hildegard Krebs": "I'm old and still horny"), a funny philistine with a pepita hat, horn-rimmed glasses and crooked teeth. With this program, Krebs started a tour from Berlin in 1998, on which he also performed his own version of the Ruhrpott hymn to the currywurst : He himself took part in the text; the music for the song made famous by Herbert Grönemeyer comes from the former presenter of the WWF Club Jürgen Triebel .
The last role
In 1999, Krebs played his last role in the Ruhrpott action comedy Bang Boom Bang - a surefire thing . As a seedy forwarder Werner Kampmann , he moved a. a. next to Ralf Richter under the direction of Peter Thorwarth once again all registers of his comedic skills. Three years earlier, in 1996, he had already worked in a 15-minute short film with the title What does not fit, is made suitable by the same director when he was still a student at the University of Television and Film Munich . Also in the long rental version with the title of the same name, What does not fit, is made to fit , if Krebs should give the building contractor Willi Wiesenkamp . However, he died eight months before filming began. In honor of Cancer, he can be seen in a fade-in on a photo montage together with his "substitute" Dietmar Bär , who plays his film son Werner .
Death and grave
Diether Krebs, who was a heavy smoker all his life, died on January 4, 2000 at the age of 52 of complications from lung cancer . He was still on stage three days before his death. Diether Krebs' last two wishes were fulfilled: he was buried in the Ostfriedhof Essen , in the immediate vicinity of his parents - with an extraordinary tombstone. At the head of the grave there is a hand-sized pebble with the dates of life.
family
Diether Krebs was married to Bettina Freifrau von Leoprechting -Krebs (born November 27, 1947 - April 6, 2006), who also died of lung cancer, since 1979 . Since his wife was professionally obliged to work as a qualified translator at the Thalia Theater , the family had lived in Hamburg since 1985. The two sons Moritz (born September 28, 1979, television director and producer) and Till (born October 1, 1985) worked as cameramen on the report Diether with 'h' Krebs about their father (first broadcast on WDR on August 3, 2007 ). His godfather was the Essen lawyer, SPD politician and North Rhine-Westphalian Justice and Finance Minister Diether Posser .
memory
In 2011, in memory of the actor and cabaret artist who grew up in the immediate vicinity, the city of Essen named the park by the historic water tower on Steeler Berg in Essen's southeastern quarter “ Diether-Krebs-Platz ”.
