Our teacher Doktor Specht is a family series by the author Kurt Bartsch , the directors Werner Masten (episode 1–57), Vera Loebner (episode 58–63) and Karin Hercher (episode 64–70), filmed in Germany from 1991 onwards . The episodes had a length of 52 (first season) and 46 minutes (second to fifth season). For later repetitions, the episodes of the first season have been shortened to around 45 minutes. In addition, they were provided with alternative, shorter credits, which were also designed in a different font.

action

Dr. Markus Specht is a teacher at various schools all over Germany . He is distinguished by his extraordinary commitment to his students. His private life is also discussed and often plays a role in everyday school life.

Episode list

Frequent change of school

In the five seasons Specht is relocated again and again and experiences the quiet town of Celle , a boarding school on an island ( "Krähenwerder" ), the political situation shortly after the fall of the Wall in Potsdam and Berlin , and at the end of the series the Bavarian country life in a boarding school . Most of the outdoor shots were shot on the island of Scharfenberg in Berlin-Tegel, which also houses a high school with an attached school farm .

Few of the characters accompany him through the entire series, such as the mother-in-law pensioner Pia Kleinholz, who later becomes his stepmother when she marries his father. She always moves from town to town with the teacher and buys new boarding houses where Specht lives. The student Charlie follows his favorite teacher from Celle to Berlin and thus accompanies him through the first two seasons. The actress Fanny Moll leads the school theater group both in Celle and later in Berlin and thus plays a central role in the first and second season.

In every season and with every change of school, Specht is initially viewed critically by his new students, but then builds a relationship of trust that sets him apart from other teachers. However, this also brings him disadvantages, such as the accusation of sexual closeness to a girl.

Multi-faceted school life

A wide variety of conceivable events from everyday school life are dealt with in the individual stories. These are mostly students from Specht's tenth grade who are 16 to 18 years old. The contents of the storylines are, for example: A schoolboy notoriously skips school, a girl becomes addicted to drugs, a schoolgirl is beaten by her father, a hemophyllist dies after an injury, a schoolgirl falls ill with HIV , a trainee teacher goes to bed with a schoolboy, one schoolgirl is pregnant, one boy falls in love with a strictly Muslim girl, another cannot cope with the divorce of his parents, others despair of career pressure.

The second season in particular places a strong focus on socio-political issues relating to the collapse of the GDR regime. With Specht's help, one of the tenth graders in Potsdam meets his parents again, who were opponents of the regime and from whom he was torn as a toddler. Other students join a neo-Nazi group out of frustration with the situation after the turnaround.

There are personal conflicts within the teaching staff, which also result in storylines. The argument is often based on the fact that there are opposing pedagogical views. Specht is very student-friendly, while others represent more authoritarian parenting styles. Specht partially takes on leadership positions in his schools, which others try to make him controversial.

Complicated love life

In his private life, Specht is portrayed as a man in whom women are very interested. He has some relationships with women, some with mothers of students. However, he keeps losing his loved ones according to a similar pattern: His students seem to be more important to him than his sometimes very demanding partners.

Special

In contrast to the Lümmel films with Hansi Kraus , the series is presented realistically. School life is not embellished, but neither is it dramatized. This made the series extremely popular, and it became a hit with audiences. However, at the end of the series, the fabrics were implemented more slowly, the quota collapsed and the series was finally discontinued. In addition, Robert Atzorn in particular wanted to devote himself to new tasks such as the crime scene . In this context he once said: “People will always see the teacher in me, I wish he had died serial death or the corpse in my first crime scene is found with the exclamation The woodpecker is dead! "

occupation

Numerous and very well-known German actors played guest roles in the series or were there for a few seasons. For Veronica Ferres , her role as secretary Anita Kufalt in the second and third seasons of the series meant her breakthrough as an actress. In most cases, the performers of the students did not get stuck with the drama. Prominent exceptions are Gerrit Schmidt-Foss , Barnaby Metschurat , Kami Manns and Florian Lukas . Both in the third and in the fifth season a student was named Kaspar Riedel , although it was not the same role.
