Marga Legal ; actually Margarete Legal (born February 18, 1908 in Berlin ; † October 30, 2001 in Weißensee , Pankow , Berlin) was a German actress and politician .

Life

Marga Legal was the daughter of the actor and director Ernst Legal . Having come to the theater at an early age through her father , the talented actress was banned from working under the National Socialist dictatorship in 1935 because of her Jewish grandfather . So her real career only started after the end of the war. From 1945 she was on the stage of the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm under the direction of Fritz Wisten . In 1954 she was briefly at the rebuilt Volksbühne . From 1955 Marga Legal was a member of the Maxim Gorki Theater ensemble for almost 30 years .

Marga Legal became one of the most popular actresses in film and television in the GDR . Due to her wide range of acting, she became one of the busiest German actresses, who was seen in almost 40 cinema roles and over 180 television films. Between 1974 and 1995 alone she was active 27 times in the television series Polizeiruf 110 .

The actress was also politically active, she joined the DFD and the DKB in 1948 and became a member of the SED in 1952 . From 1953 to 1957 she was a member of the Berlin district board of the art union, from 1954 to 1958 a member of the Berlin city council, and from 1967 to 1971, as a Berlin representative and member of the DFD parliamentary group, she was a member of the Volkskammer and a member of the committee for the rules of procedure. Marga Legal remained active as an actor well into old age. The actress, who was ultimately severely visually and walking handicapped, died at the age of 93 on October 30, 2001 after a traffic accident in Berlin-Weißensee in the Pankow district .
