Marriage issue Lorenz is a German DEFA feature film by Joachim Kunert from 1959 based on the play of the same name by Berta Waterstradt .

action

Trude Lorenz has to do with broken marriages every day as a people's judge . Her husband Willi works as a department manager in a company that makes cranes. The two have been happily married for 24 years. At least that is what her daughter Gitta, who is engaged to Peter, a lover of classical music, believes. In reality, Willi has had a relationship with his 22-year-old secretary Helga for six months. This is not only noticed by his driver Schliffke, but also by other colleagues and a judge of the court, who opens Ms. Lorenz's eyes in a conversation. After Helga asks Frau Lorenz to release her husband, because, according to Willis, there has been no love between the two for many years, the matter takes on serious features. It turns out that Willi cheated on both women because he never intended to enter into a committed relationship with Helga.

Events are now overturning. Gitta learns that she is expecting a child from Peter. After a lengthy discussion with his driver, Willi tries to save his marriage again. Helga is offered a new job in another company and Trude realizes that their marriage is not yet completely broken. So there is no “Lorenz divorce case”.

production

Marriage case Lorenz was shot in black and white and had its premiere on August 28, 1959 in the Colosseum cinema in Berlin . It was first broadcast on German television on February 26, 1960.

criticism

Valentin Lupescu found in the Berliner Zeitung that this film draws people like you and me, with apt humorous language of the people and a lot of truths that apply to everyone. He does not bring any obvious cheap moral dribbling, no caricature distortion and no superfluous comment.

Horst Knietzsch from New Germany summed it up in one sentence in his review: “All that remains to be said is: Recommend“ Marriage matter Lorenz ”to your neighbors too!"

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film offers above-average, cheerful and thoughtful entertainment in style and statement. The acting is excellent.
