Oleksandr Jewdokymowytsch Kornijtschuk ( Ukrainian Олександр Євдокимович Корнійчук ; Russian Александр Евдокимович Корнейчук * 25. May 1905 in Christinowka , Kiev Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 14. May 1972 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Soviet journalist, author essayist and politician. From March to July 1944 he was Foreign Minister of the Ukrainian SSR.

Life

Kornijchuk began writing his first short stories at the age of 20 and wrote his first play in 1928. He is also the author of numerous other literary works and scripts. From 1938 to 1941 and 1946 to 1953 he was chairman of the Ukrainian Writers' Union . From 1939 he was a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR . He died in Kiev at the age of 66 and was buried in the Baikowe cemetery .

Oleksandr Kornijtschuk was the brother-in-law of the writer Natan Rybak and the third husband of the Polish-Soviet politician and writer Wanda Wasilewska .
