Andriy Parubiy
Andrij Volodymyrowytsch Parubij ( Ukrainian Андрій Володимирович Парубій ; born January 31, 1971 in Chervonohrad ) is a Ukrainian politician (non-party; formerly all-Ukrainian association "Fatherland" ).
Parubij was Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine from February 27 to August 7, 2014 . He was a co-founder of the right-wing extremist Social-National Party of Ukraine, the forerunner of today's Svoboda Party, and was at times active in the leadership of the nationalist organization Patriot of Ukraine .
In his political career he changed party affiliation several times, in the parliamentary elections in 2012 he ran on the list of Yulia Tymoshenko's Fatherland Party and was re-elected to the Verkhovna Rada . During the Euromaidan protests Parubij was regarded as the “commander of the Maidan”, where he worked closely with the leader of the Right Sector , Dmytro Yarosh .
When the interim government of Yatsenyuk was formed in February 2014, Parubiy was appointed Chairman of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine , from which he resigned on August 7, 2014.
During the crisis in Ukraine in 2014 , from April to August, as the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, he led the “anti-terrorist operation” in eastern Ukraine. During this time Parubij spoke out in favor of introducing a visa requirement for Russian citizens. Yatsenyuk took a more cautious stance on the issue of visa regulations in Brussels, given that a large number of citizens, primarily in the south and east of the country, are interested in maintaining visa-free travel to Russia since they work there or have family.
In the 2014 parliamentary election , he ran for fourth place on the Popular Front . After the election he became deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada parliament .
On April 14, 2016, Andrij Parubij was elected as the new President of the Verkhovna Rada Parliament with 284 votes, succeeding the new Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroysman . He held this office until August 29, 2019.
