The Popular Front ( Ukrainian Народний фронт / Narodnyj front ) is a company incorporated in March 2014 political party in Ukraine . The party leader of the party that emerged as the strongest parliamentary force in the parliamentary elections on October 26, 2014 is Arseniy Yatsenyuk .

founding

The formation of the party in March 2014 was initiated by Arsenij Yatsenjuk, Prime Minister of Ukraine, and Oleksandr Turchynow , Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Parliament and temporarily acting head of state. Both were leading members of the Fatherland Party , but fell out with Yulia Tymoshenko after her release from prison and formed the Popular Front with other party friends.

The first party conference took place on September 10, 2014, at which Yatsenyuk was elected chairman of the party and Turchynov chairman of the party headquarters.

The party's motto is "Сильна команда для складних часів" (in German "A strong team for difficult times" ).

The party is economically liberal , conservative and pro-European and advocates rapprochement with the European Union . She has spoken out in favor of violent fighting against the pro-Russian separatists, but has no clear position on this issue.

Military council

The Military Council is a special body of the party and brings proposals to improve the defense readiness of Ukraine in the party. It was formed together with the other bodies at the first party congress on September 10, 2014. The party congress also decided on the composition of the military council. Members are: Oleksandr Turchynow, Arsen Avakow , Andrij Parubij , Dmytro Tymchuk , Serhiy Paschynskyj and some commanders of the Ukrainian militias.

Political Council

The Political Council was also formed at the first party congress and consists of: Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Oleksandr Turchynow, Arsen Avakov , the incumbent Minister of the Interior, Vyacheslav Kyrylenko , Andriy Parubiy , who headed the National Security and Defense Council from February to August 2014 , Tetiana Chornovol , a journalist, Majdan activist and former chairman of the anti-corruption Committee, further Liliya Hrynewytsch , Wiktorija Sjumar and Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko . The composition of the council is fixed for seven years.

Coordinating Council

The Popular Front has a coordinating council that includes the members of the Political Council and the regional leaders of the Popular Front.

General election 2014

List places

Yatsenjuk was chairman and top candidate in the parliamentary elections in Ukraine in 2014 , while Turchynov ran in third place. Tetjana Tschornowol took second place in the list. Andrij Parubij followed in fourth place, the fifth place on the list was held by Colonel and battalion commander Andrij Teteruk . Arsen Avakov ran for sixth place. Viktorija Sjumar , Vyacheslav Kyrylenko and Lilija Hrynewytsch followed in seventh to ninth place . Tenth place on the list was occupied by the Ukrainian major and battalion commander Yuriy Beresa , eleventh place was occupied by Pavlo Petrenko and in twelfth place was Serhiy Paschynskyj , who was head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine from March 5 to June 10, 2014 .

Result

The Popular Front emerged as the strongest party in the election and has already initiated coalition negotiations with the Petro Poroshenko bloc , the party alliance around President Petro Poroshenko . Yatsenyuk claimed the office of the new prime minister as the leader of the strongest party on October 30, 2014 and invited the four parties represented in the future parliament to exploratory talks for a coalition. On November 21, the five pro-European parties ( BPP , Popular Front, Oleh Lyashko's Radical Party , Fatherland and Self-Help ) presented a coalition agreement. On November 27, the new government was ratified by the Rada; Yatsenyuk was re-elected prime minister and the Popular Front provided four other ministers, including Oleksandr Turchynov, the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council .

On February 15, 2015 and the following days, the All-Ukrainian Association "Fatherland" of Yulia Tymoshenko and the liberal "Self-Help" ( Samopomitsch ) left the government coalition, with the result that the Yatsenyuk government no longer had a parliamentary majority.
