Euromaidan protests
As part of the Euromaidan protests at the end of November 2013, several right-wing extremist or radical-nationalist groups came together to form the informal, paramilitary and violent group “Prawyj Sector” (Right Sector). Yarosh was one of the leading figures in the group and was referred to by various media as the “leader” or “chairman” of the “right-wing sector”. At the Maidan he appeared several times as a speaker and on February 21, 2014 proclaimed the continuation of the “national revolution” in Ukraine. Although Yarosch was offered various positions in the formation of the government, he was not a member of the newly formed Ukrainian government at the end of February 2014.
War in Ukraine
The Russian public prosecutor's office has been investigating Jarosch since March 3, 2014 because of an alleged appeal by Yarosch to the Chechen terrorist leader Doku Umarow in support of Ukraine to “activate the fight against Russia”. A spokesman for Yarosch had told Radio Liberty that the alleged call was part of a dirt campaign that the website had been hacked . On March 5, 2014, the Russian authorities wrote Yarosch for "incitement to terrorism" to be searched internationally. On March 11, 2014 , Valery Rashkin, Duma deputy and deputy chairman of the Russian Communist Party , called for Yarosh to be liquidated .
On March 7, 2014, the Prawyj sector announced that the group wanted to transform itself into a party. Yarosh will run for the presidential election in Ukraine on May 25, 2014. In connection with his presidential candidacy, Jarosch declared that the “right sector” would not only not support anti-Semitism in the future, but would fight it with all legal means, and in an interview with Jewish News One also affirmed his and his organization's rejection of anti-Semitism. In the presidential elections, Jarosch achieved a result of 0.70% of the votes cast.
Yarosh took part in the fighting against pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine in the summer of 2014 as the leader of an armed volunteer association of the Pravyj sector . On January 21, 2015, Yarosh was seriously wounded during the Second Battle of Donetsk Airport near Pisky . In April 2015, Yarosh was appointed advisor to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He is to serve as an intermediary between the volunteer battalions and the General Staff.
In the general election in 2014 was a candidate Jarosch in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and a direct mandate for the won Verkhovna Rada .
Political positions
Jarosch rejects the accusation that he is racist . In his view, he regards all people who fight for Ukraine as comrades. He also stated that he rejects all forms of chauvinism , anti-Semitism and xenophobia .
Yarosh describes Ukraine as a "European country". However, he rejects accession to the EU , which he accuses of an anti-Christian orientation. In his book “Nation und Revolution” he describes his rejection of parliamentary democracy. When asked by Der Spiegel whether Adolf Hitler was his role model, Jarosch said: “He has shed so much blood from my people, I can't get anything positive from him. German National Socialism is an enemy for Ukrainian nationalists. "
Yarosh called for the Party of Regions and the Communist Party to be banned . He sees himself as a supporter of the Ukrainian nationalist Stepan Bandera .
