Kostjantyn Sytnyk before 2012

Kostjantyn Merkurijowytsch Sytnyk (born June 3, 1926 in Luhansk , Ukrainian SSR ; † July 22, 2017 in Kiev , Ukraine ) was a Soviet- Ukrainian botanist, plant physiologist, ecologist and politician.

Life

Kostjantyn Sytnyk was director of the Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine between 1970 and 2003 and was its honorary director until the end of his life.

Between 1980 and 1985 he was, succeeding Mychajlo Bilyj , Speaker of Parliament of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR and from 1998 to 2006 he was a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Honors

Kostjantyn Sytnyk received numerous honors. Including:

• 2004 Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise 4th class
• 1998 Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, 5th class
• 1986 Order of Lenin
• 1979, 1984 State Prize of the USSR for Science and Technology
• 1976 Order of the October Revolution
• 1971 Order of the Red Labor Banner
