Volodymyr Boryssowytsch Hroysman (born January 20, 1978 in Vinnytsia , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian politician of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc . He was Prime Minister of Ukraine from April 14, 2016 to August 29, 2019 .

Life

Volodymyr Hroysman graduated from high school No. 35 in Vinnytsia in 1994 and completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith . From 2000 to 2003 he studied law at the Interregional Academy for Personnel Management in Vinnytsia. In 2002, at the age of 24, he became the youngest member of the Vinnytsia City Council. In November 2005 he was elected secretary of the city council and in March 2006 he was elected mayor of the city. At that time he was the youngest mayor of a major Ukrainian city. One term later, he was re-elected with 78% of the vote and held the office of mayor until February 27, 2014. From 2004 to 2010 he was a member of the meanwhile insignificant party Our Ukraine , from 2010 to 2014 a member of the regional party Conscience of Ukraine , which has not stood in parliamentary elections since 2007. In February 2010 he graduated from the National Academy of State Administration's master’s program on "Public Development Management" with a specialization in "Administration at regional and local level".

On February 27, 2014, a few days after the dismissal of President Viktor Yanukovych, he was appointed second deputy prime minister of the new Ukrainian government under Arseniy Yatsenyuk and minister for regional development. When the Verkhovna Rada refused to accept Yatsenyuk's resignation in July 2014, Hroysman served as executive prime minister from July 25 to 31. In the parliamentary elections on October 26, 2014 , he was elected member of the Petro Poroshenko party’s fourth place on the list . He became president of the new parliament on November 27, 2014 and resigned from office on December 2.

After Yatsenyuk resigned as a result of a government crisis, Hroysman was elected by the Verkhovna Rada on April 14, 2016 with 257 votes at the age of 38 as the youngest prime minister in the history of Ukraine and presented his new cabinet on the same day . On May 20, 2019, the day the new Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi was inaugurated , he announced his resignation for May 22, 2019.

Private

Volodymyr Hroysman is a member of the Jewish minority of Ukraine and the first Prime Minister of the country of Jewish origin. He is married and has one son and two daughters.
