Denys Anatolijowytsch Schmyhal ( Ukrainian Денис Анатолійович Шмигаль ; born October 15, 1975 in Lviv , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian civil servant and politician . He has been Prime Minister of Ukraine since March 4, 2020 .

Life

Schmyhal was born in Lviv in western Ukraine and graduated from Lviv Polytechnic University in 1997 with a degree in economics . In 2003 he defended his dissertation on regional economics and the use of productive forces and received his doctorate in economics. Schmyhal worked in management positions in the private sector and switched to the public service in 2009, where he was initially assistant to the governor of Lviv Oblast and then head of the economic department of the regional state administration. In 2011 he was the head of the NGO Institute for Regional Development . In 2014, he worked as an assistant to the MP Roman Cherneha of the UDAR party. After that, he was Deputy Head of the Regional Financial Service Office in Lviv. In January 2018 he became director of the Burshtyn power plant .

From August 1, 2019 to February 5, 2020, he was the chairman of the regional administration of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast . From February 4 to March 4, 2020, he was Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine in the Honcharuk Cabinet and, in succession to Aljona Babak , Minister for Local and Territorial Development. On March 4, 2020, it was, in succession to Oleksiy Hontscharuk after President him Volodymyr Selenskyj nominated, from Parliament to the Prime Minister of Ukraine elected. On the same day he presented the composition of his Cabinet of Ministers .
