Life

Rajissa Bohatyrjowa graduated from the Medical Institute of Kharkov University in 1977 from her first university degree . In 1996 she obtained a second law degree from the University of Kiev . She worked as a doctor until the political change in 1990 and then began her political career as a member of the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada .

From 1994 to 2000 she worked in the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, most recently as the first deputy minister. She then worked temporarily as a scientific advisor to the then President Leonid Kuchma and was re-elected to the Verkhovna Rada in 2000. From 2002 to 2007 she was the leader of the Party of Regions (PR) faction in the Rada. After the parliamentary elections in 2007 , she gave up this post to the former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych and became deputy group leader. Since the summer of 2006, Ms. Bohatyrjowa was a member of the PR board and member of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg .

On December 24, 2007, President Viktor Yushchenko appointed her chairman of the National Security and Defense Council (RNBO). Her predecessor in this office was Ivan Pljuschtsch . The leadership of the Party of Regions had expressly asked Bohatyrjowa not to take up the post, since active membership in the PR was incompatible with work in the service of President Yushchenko. After Bohatyrjowa had decided for this office, Olexandr Yefremov was elected as her successor as deputy group chairman of the PR in the Rada.

In August 2008, Bohatyrjowa was expelled from the Party of Regions by a decision of the party leadership. The last occasion was her critical public expression of the position of party leader Viktor Yanukovych in the Caucasus conflict . Although the Party of Regions initially spoke out in favor of Ukraine's neutral position, Yanukovych expressed his support for Russia's position on the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia .

After Yanukovych took office after the 2010 presidential election, she initially remained in her post as head of the National Security and Defense Council. In February 2012, she was released from this position and appointed Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Health of Ukraine at the same time.

On March 6, 2014, the Council of the European Union in Brussels imposed restrictive measures against Rajissa Bohatyrjowa in Regulation 208/2014. This is justified with the criminal prosecution of Bohatyrjowa for the investigation of crimes related to the embezzlement of Ukrainian public funds and the illegal transfer of these funds abroad.

At the end of August 2019, Bohatyrjowa was arrested in Kiev and released on bail a few days later.

Rajissa Bohatyrjowa is married to Ihor Bohatyrjow. She has two sons.
