Anatolij Maximovich Slenko ( Ukrainian Анатолій Максимович Зленко , born June 2, 1938 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian politician and diplomat. He was Foreign Minister of Ukraine from July 1990 to August 1994 and again from October 2000 to September 2003 .

Anatoly Slenko began his career as a diplomat in the Soviet Union . From 1973 to 1979 he was a member of the UNESCO Secretariat in Paris and from 1983 to 1987 Permanent Representative of the USSR to UNESCO.

In June 1990 Slenko became Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Ukrainian Soviet Republic and, after Ukraine gained state independence in July 1991, was the first Foreign Minister of the sovereign Ukraine until August 1994. From 1994 to 1997 Slenko was Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations and from 1997 to 2000 Ambassador of Ukraine to France. From October 2000 to September 2003, Anatoly Slenko was Foreign Minister of Ukraine for a second time.
