Andrij Deschyzja (2015)

Andrij Deschtschyzja ( Ukrainian Андрій Дещиця ; born September 22, 1965 in Spassiw near Sokal , Lviv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian diplomat and non-party politician. From February to June 2014 he was the acting Foreign Minister of Ukraine and thus a member of the interim government of Arseniy Yatsenjuk .

Life

Andrij Deschtschyzja studied political science at the University of Lviv and the University of Alberta ( Canada ). As a trained diplomat , he mainly worked abroad. From 1996 to 1999 he worked as press officer and first secretary of the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland . From 1999 he became senior coordinator of a Polish-Ukrainian joint program. Between 2001 and 2006, Deschtschyzja was also the Ukrainian embassy counselor in Finland and Poland and spokesman for the Ukrainian foreign ministry. From 2007 to 2012 he finally acted as the Ukrainian ambassador to Finland and in 2008 also to Iceland . In 2013 he was elected Ukrainian special envoy of the OSCE .

In the wake of the unrest in Ukraine , he was sworn in as the acting successor of Leonid Koschara as Ukrainian Foreign Minister on February 27, 2014 .

On June 14, 2014, violent protests broke out in front of the Russian embassy in Kiev in response to the shooting down of a Ukrainian military plane near Luhansk . Deschytsia tried to calm the protesters. In this context, he said he asked the demonstrators to sing what they wanted, but not to throw stones. In the heated discussion, he said that he agreed that Vladimir Putin should be called “chuilo” ( Russian хуйло ). In a chant Putin chuilo , which has been very popular in Ukraine since March 2014 , Putin is reviled with this obscene swear word from the Russian vulgar language . Russian politicians then demanded Deschytsja's resignation.

On October 13, 2014, Andrij Desschyzja was appointed Ukrainian ambassador to Warsaw by President Petro Poroshenko .
