Volodymyr Dmytrowytsch Chandohij ( Ukrainian Володимир Дмитрович Хандогій ; born February 21, 1953 in Cherkassy , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian diplomat and was Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine for several months in 2009 .

Volodymyr Chandohij studied at the Faculty of International Relations and International Law of the Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev . From 1975 to 1976 he worked as a translator on the construction site of a steel works in Karachi ( Pakistan ). He then worked as an attaché in the press department of the Foreign Ministry of the Ukrainian SSR (USSR). From 1979 to 1983 he was part of the USSR legation to the United Nations in New York City . He then worked again in various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kiev. In 1988 he returned to New York, this time as part of the delegation of the Soviet Union. After its collapse, Chandohij stayed with the United Nations, now as the representative of independent Ukraine. In 1994 he returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1995 to 1998 he was Deputy Foreign Minister for the first time. From 1988 he was Ukraine's ambassador to various countries: first in Canada , then in the Netherlands and finally in Belgium (with responsibility for Luxembourg and relations with NATO ). From October 2005 to January 2006, Chandohij was the head of the Department for Relations with NATO in the Kiev Foreign Ministry. Since January 2006 he has been again one of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, since July 2007 first Deputy Foreign Minister. After the election of Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohrysko on March 3, 2009 by the Ukrainian parliament , Chandohij took over his office on a temporary basis. On October 9, 2009, Petro Poroshenko was elected the new Ordinary Foreign Minister. Since July 30th 2010 he has been the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom .
