Sergei Sergeyevich Bakinsky ( Russian Сергей Сергеевич Бакинский , transliteration Sergei Sergeevič Bakinskij , Ukrainian Сергій Сергійович Бакинський, Serhiy Serhijowytsch Bakynskyj * 1886 in Riga , Governorate of Livonia , Russian Empire ; † 1939 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) was a Soviet revolutionary and politician. He was the first People's Commissar for International Affairs ( Foreign Minister ) of the Ukrainian SSR from December 24, 1917 to March 4, 1918 .

Life

Sergei Bakinski was born in Riga to a merchant family. After graduating from university in 1904, he began studying at the University of Kazan . There he quickly came into contact with the striking students there and joined the RSDLP (B) in the same year . After he was expelled from the university in 1907, he worked for the Bolshevik Party in Kazan , Baku and Saint Petersburg, among others, until 1912 . From 1912 to 1914 he was employed in the editorial department of Pravda in Saint Petersburg. After the February revolution , which he in 1917 Harbin , where he edited a Bolshevik newspaper, experienced, he went in September 1917 to Ukrainian Kiev and participated there in the preparations for the revolution.

After the October Revolution , as a member of the Kiev Regional Committee of the RSDLP (b) in December 1917, he took part in the first All-Ukrainian Soviet Congress in Kharkov , at which the Soviet Ukrainian People's Republic was proclaimed. The Congress elected him a member of the Central Executive Committee of Ukraine and on December 24, 1917 he was the People's Commissar for National Affairs until March 4, 1918 and from May 1919 to June 1920, People's Commissar for Transport . From 1924 to 1925 he was the trade representative of the USSR in Latvia and from 1926 he was a member of the main concession committee of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR. He then became the first director in the administration of foreign affairs of the People's Commissariat of the USSR and from the summer of 1929 he worked as the director of the State Bank. He fell victim to the great terror in 1939 .
