Doris Ebert has three daughters. Since the family moved to Lobenfeld in 1973, they have carried out historical and art-historical research on the Lobenfeld Monastery , which has led to numerous publications and made the monastery known as an important monument of the Staufer era with its important late Romanesque and Gothic murals. She also passes on her knowledge through tours of the monastery.

Since 1980 she has organized the concert series "Music in the Klosterkirche Lobenfeld" (which has existed since 1958), which thrives on the special atmosphere and acoustics of the church. The historic organ from 1773 is often the focus.

In 1980 she was elected as the first woman to the council of Lobbach-Lobenfeld . She was a member of this body until 2009.

Doris Ebert has a particular interest in the life of women in the Middle Ages. This led, among other things, to a book about Elisabeth Silbereisen , who was a Mosbach citizen's daughter, a nun in Lobenfeld and later the wife of the reformer Martin Bucer . Ebert's most important publications include the monograph St. Maria zu Lobenfeld Monastery , which she edited together with Klaus Gereon Beuckers .

Her commitment has received several awards, including the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 2011 .

In 2013 she took part in the study of the elderly by the Institute for Gerontology at the University of Heidelberg with the Generali Future Fund , and in this context also in the panel discussion at the presentation of the study. Since then she has been participating in cross-generational projects at the Institute of Gerontology. In this context, she specializes in the subject of "aging in rural areas".

In 2016 she was portrayed in the illustrated book "Altweiberwohnen".
