The National Association of Writers of Ukraine ( Ukrainian Національна спілка письменників України / Nazionalna spilka pysmennykiw Ukraiiny ) was founded in 1934 as the professional association of writers in Ukraine .

history

The Union of Writers of the USSR of Ukraine was founded in 1934 at the 1st National Congress of Soviet Writers on June 16 ( Kharkiv ) and August 12, 1934 in Kiev .

The Writers ' Union of Ukraine was established in 1991 at the 10th Congress of the Socialist Party on April 19, 1991 as independent from the Writers' Union of the USSR and in succession to the Soviet Writers' Union of Ukraine from 1934 and the Union of Writers of Ukraine from 1959. The association received the status of a "National" Association of Writers of Ukraine in 1997.

The chairman of the Writers' Union has been the writer Mychailo Sydorschewskyj ( Михайло Олексійович Сидоржевський ), born in 1958, since November 29, 2014 . His predecessors in office (from 1973 to 1991 "First Secretary") were:

The headquarters of the association is located in the Liebermann villa in downtown Kiev on Wulyzja Bankowa ( Вулиця Банкова ) No. 2. The association organizes 200 to 250 different creative activities in the villa every year, such as literary evenings, award ceremonies and training events for young authors.
