The Gurudongmar Lake (or Gurudongmar Cho ; formerly Gordama Lake ) is a glacial edge lake in the eastern Himalayas in North Sikkim ( India ).
The mountain lake is located on the northern flank of the Dongkya group on the edge of the Tibetan plateau at an altitude of 5148 m . It has a water surface of 118 hectares and a circumference of 5.34 km. The Gurudongmar Lake gets its water from two lakes located about 500 m to the south. The western lake ( ⊙ ) has an area of 101 ha and is located at an altitude of 5211 m . It is fed by a glacier that flows north between Kangchengyao and Gurudongmar . The eastern lake ( ⊙ ) has an area of 115 ha, is located at an altitude of 5238 m and is fed directly by the Gurudongmar glacier . The water of the Gurudongmar Lake flows via a short drain into the upper reaches of the Lachen Chu , the right source river of the Tista, flowing past to the north .
Gurudongmar Lake is considered a "holy lake". The lake is accessible via a road up the Lachen Chu river valley. Due to the proximity to the Chinese border, special authorizations are required.
