The Kangchengyao (also Kangchenjau ) is a mountain in the Himalayas in the northeast of Sikkim in India .
The Kangchengyao has a height of 6889 m . It is located in the west of the Dongkya group . To the north and west of the mountain runs the valley of the Lachen Chu , the right source river of the Tista . On the opposite side of the valley rises the 6829 m high Chomoyummo, 12 km west-northwest . To the east, the mountain range continues to the 7128 m high Pauhunri .
Ascent history
The Kangchengyao was first climbed in 1912 by the Scottish alpinist Alexander Mitchell Kellas , accompanied by Sherpas.
Another successful ascent of the summit was achieved on October 21, 1961 by an Indian mountaineering group (Jaswant Singh, Lekpa Tenzing and Sonam Gyatso).
