Jurij Mychajlowytsch Muschketyk ( Ukrainian Юрій Михайлович Мушкетик , transliteration Jurij Mychajlovyč Mušketyk ; born March 21, 1929 in Wertijiwka , Chernihiv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ; † June 6, 2019 ) was a Ukrainian writer .

Life

Jurij Muschketyk studied philology at the Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev until 1953 and from 1953 to 1956 he studied Ukrainian literature at the graduate school . After graduating, he became editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Dnepr".

In 1954 he published his first literary work, his first novel in 1962.

In 1979 he became secretary and in 1980 first secretary of the Kiev branch of the Writers' Union of Ukraine. From 1986 to 2001 he was chairman of the National Association of Writers of Ukraine .

Jurij Muschketyk is considered a master of modern Ukrainian prose. He has published more than a dozen novels, a series of novels, and several collections of short stories. He also wrote some plays.
