Hans Dieter Mäde (born January 29, 1930 in Krakow am See , Güstrow office , Mecklenburg-Schwerin ; † May 29, 2009 in Krakow am See, Güstrow district , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ) was a German theater director , dramaturge , and artistic director from 1976 to 1989 Director General of DEFA .

Live and act

Hans Dieter Mäde grew up in Schwerin and initially studied German and history from 1947 to 1949 at the University of Rostock . From 1949 to 1952 he studied theater studies , dramaturgy and directing at the Deutsches Theater-Institut in Weimar with a diploma . Mäde had already become a member of the SED in 1946 .

From 1952 to 1956, Hans Dieter Mäde was chief dramaturge and director at the Erfurt Theater . This was followed by work as a director at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater until 1961. Between 1961 and 1966 Mäde was general director and chief drama director at the Karl-Marx-Stadt Theater . This was followed by general management at the Dresden State Theater until 1972 and then a return to the Maxim-Gorki-Theater as senior theater director until 1976.

In a party-political position, Mäde was a candidate for the Central Committee of the SED from 1963 to 1981 and a member of the SED Central Committee from 1981 to 1989. From 1966 to 1977 he was Vice President of the Association of Theater Professionals in the GDR and from 1974 to 1991 he was a full member of the Academy of the Arts in the GDR .

In 1976 Mäde became Director General of DEFA as successor to Albert Wilkening . For health reasons he resigned from this position in 1989 and went into early retirement . His son Michael Mäde was born in 1962 and is also a dramaturge and writer.
