Martin Andersen Nexö Art Prize

The Martin Andersen Nexö Art Prize of the City of Dresden was an art prize in the GDR. The award was named after the Danish writer Martin Andersen Nexø , who spent the last years of his life in Dresden . The prize was awarded annually from 1959 to 1990 on June 26th, Andersen Nexø's birthday, by the City Council of Dresden. His successor has been the Art Prize of the City of Dresden since 1993 ; its forerunner was the Dresden Art Prize .

The prize was awarded “for outstanding achievements in the field of fine arts, literature and music”.
