Matthias Geissler

Matthias Geissler (* 1946 ) is a German choir conductor .

Since 1957 a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor , Geissler studied organ , piano and conducting in Halle from 1965 to 1972 . As a conductor he was assistant to Fritz Höft in Berlin. From 1980 to 2012 he was the choir director of the choirs of the Dresden Philharmonic and directed the Philharmonic Choir and the Philharmonic Chamber Choir. In 1989 he was awarded the Martin Andersen Nexö Art Prize of the City of Dresden .

He is a lecturer in conducting at the Dresden University of Music and the Dresden University of Church Music . He has been an honorary professor since 1998.
