Gottfried Herold

Gottfried Herold (born May 8, 1929 in Weißbach bei Pulsnitz , Oberlausitz ) is a German writer and poet . He was best known as a children's book author .

Life

Herold was born in 1929 as the son of a master orthopedic shoe maker and a seamstress in Upper Lusatia. He worked as a technical draftsman until 1955 before turning to a career as a writer and journalist .

In 1955, a historical-biographical story about Justus von Liebig was published with Hope boils in the test tubes . In the following year, with the discovery of new light, a historical-biographical story about Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen followed . In the same year, the Donkey Boy of Panayia, a first lyrical story appeared. In 1961 the children's book The Famous Great Grandfather was published, which was later reprinted repeatedly. Numerous other children's books were published by the mid-1970s.

From 1956 he was an editorial member of the Sächsische Zeitung in Dresden . He was chairman of the German Writers' Association in the Dresden district . In 1961 he was awarded the Erich Weinert Medal ; In 1969 he received the Martin Andersen Nexö Art Prize of the City of Dresden and was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze. From 1970 to 1971 he studied at the "Johannes R. Becher" literature institute in Leipzig .

Herold is married to the writer Annemarie Herold (née Hunger , * 1924), who also published several books with her husband under the pseudonym Heide Wendland .
