Quotes

"I don't think anyone can break free from their chain of tradition, from their environment, from their form - all of that will occupy them."

- Gerhard Kettner

"For my work, it is true that dealing with Richter's work was most problematic where I tried to find new means through new content."

- Gerhard Kettner

"Good drawings are always open, they give new knowledge space and time."

- Gerhard Kettner

"The actual expressiveness of the drawing comes from the undrawn areas."

- Gerhard Schröder

“For me, the longest and most intense memories of Gerhard Kettner are connected with the encounters in his studio at the art college on Brühl's terrace. It was a room that impressed every visitor. In my memory, in the 18 years in which I visited Gerhard Kettner in his studio, hardly anything changed in that? Everyone who knew Kettner better is united in this room through their encounter with him, and of course these are mainly his students. The cigar smoke, the photos of the teachers on the wall, mostly a recent drawing on the easel. "

- Manfred Zoller, 1999
