Johannes Heisig (born April 23, 1953 in Leipzig ) is a German painter , draftsman and graphic artist in the socially critical tradition of realism.

Life

Heisig comes from a family of artists . His grandfather Walter Heisig , his father Bernhard Heisig and his brother Walter Eisler were also painters and graphic artists. He attended the Extended Thomas High School (EOS) (today: Thomasschule zu Leipzig ) until his Abitur in 1971 . From 1973 to 1977 he studied painting and graphics at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (HGB) and graduated with a diploma. At the same time he worked in his father's workshop. From 1978 to 1980 he was a master student with Gerhard Kettner at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (HfBK). From 1979 to 1980 he was a scholarship holder at the F + F School for Art and Experimental Design in Zurich.

From 1980 to 1991 Heisig taught at the Dresden University of Fine Arts, since 1988 as professor and holder of the chair for painting and graphics. From 1989 to 1991 he was the rector of this university. In 1990 he was one of the founding members of the New Saxon Art Association and in 1992 of the support association for the European Workshop for Art and Culture Hellerau eV In 2000, the film portrait "End of the great teaching" (arte / ZDF) was created as a psychological portrait of the father-son relationship between Bernhard and Johannes Heisig. Heisig moved to Berlin . From 2003 to 2004 he was a professor at the TU Dortmund . In 2004 Heisig was a “city guest” in the city of Eisenach . The results of this stay were presented in June 2005 in the exhibition "I go and search with desire ...". Heisig's work can be found in well-known museums.

In 2008 he created the important work cycle “Once upon a time. Images of remembering, memories and the inside ”, in which he artistically dealt with the division of Germany from a public and private perspective. "For a long time he had kept an artistic distance from the wall topic until he, inspired by the gallery owner of the Berlin gallery son, contacted the memorial in 2007." The series was produced in a cooperation between the Berlin press conference , galerie son and the Berlin Wall Memorial shown for the first time in an exhibition opened on August 13, 2008 in the Berlin House of Representatives .
