Jochen Berg
Jochen Berg (born March 25, 1948 in Bleicherode , Thuringia , † June 25, 2009 in Berlin ) was a German writer .
Life
Jochen Berg grew up in Bleicherode. He broke off an apprenticeship started at his parents' request in the local potash mining industry , earned his living as an assistant nurse, began training at the State Drama School in Berlin-Niederschöneweide in 1969 , which he also broke off after two years.
Already in his time in Bleicheröder he wrote poetry and prose. From 1972 he lived and worked as a freelance writer in Berlin. He began to write plays and in 1974 became an in-house author at the Deutsches Theater in East Berlin. He held this position until 1991. His main work, the tetralogy, consisting of 3 tragedies ( Niobe , Klytaimestra , Im Taurerland ) and a satyr play ( Niobe am Sipylos ) was written between 1975 and 1979.
Hansgünther Heyme premiered all 4 pieces at the Württemberg State Theater in Stuttgart in 1985 . In 1986 she brought Holk Freytag to the Wuppertal stage in a brilliant performance in one evening. The performance rights for these pieces are held by Drei-Masken-Verlag, the book publishing rights by Edition Vogelmann. In 1979/80 the tragedy The Phoenicians of Euripides was commissioned by the Württemberg State Theater in Stuttgart . It was premiered there in 1981. In 1991 the Steidl publishing house in Göttingen produced the CD Die Engel - four short operas (music: Ulrich Gumpert ), created 1983–1989.
In addition, he wrote his present-day tragedy, Strangers in the Night , in 1989/90 . The world premiere took place in 1992, directed by Frank Castorf, at the Volksbühne in Berlin . In addition to drama, Berg wrote poems and essays that z. Some were published through newspapers, magazines and radio stations. Jochen Berg was also the author of the magazines Sklaven (from 1994 to 1999) and Opponents (since 1999) published by BasisDruck- Verlag in Berlin .
criticism
“The signs of the times in Germany are hatred and violence against strangers. It is good if the theater raises its humanistic voice. Applause."
"As an author of plays, prose, opera libretti and film texts, he is one of those highly gifted people who evade easy understanding and brisk sympathy."
“In 1996 Berg wrote his 'artistic career' by hand in clearly legible capital letters in the poet's pose. It says: '1976 - The performance of the play Dave at the Deutsches Theater was banned . 1977 - Prohibition of the performance of my Iphigenia adaptation (directed by Alexander Lang ) at the Deutsches Theater. The prohibition measure extends to all other pieces by me for all theaters in the GDR, so that there were no more premieres until the end of the state. ' It was good form to be 'forbidden'. That sounds different than 'not played'. It does not do justice to Jochen Berg or his best pieces if one leaves this legend, which he spread and which others smugly passed on, unchallenged. "
“ Gospel and punk compositions. - Now, in the anniversary edition, the pianist Ulrich Gumpert has very cleverly reminded of the potential that the GDR brought with it on jazz terrain to the new unit - he wrote the short operas developed together with the playwright Jochen Berg, who died early in 2009 listed again under the title 'The Angels': an event between the worlds of jazz and literature. "
