Michael Hametner (* 1950 in Rostock ) is an Austro-German journalist , editor , speaker and literary and theater critic .

Live and act

Michael Hametner was born in Rostock as the son of an Austrian citizen. He studied journalism and literature at the University of Leipzig , worked as an actor and director and directed the Poetic Theater at the University of Leipzig. From the beginning of the 1990s he worked as a freelancer for Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR). In 1993 he was a member of the jury for the radio play of the month . In 1994 he became literary editor at the MDR and in 1995 initiated the MDR literary competition .

In 2001 it became public knowledge that Michael Hametner had signed up as an unofficial employee of the Ministry for State Security in 1968 , for which he was of particular interest as an Austrian citizen. The cooperation ended in 1975 after he had surrendered his Austrian passport and became of no interest to the MfS. At first he was no longer allowed to moderate. In 2002 he was able to return to the microphone because he had ended his contacts with the State Security before 1976 and ... these "are no longer allowed to be taken into account according to the legal provisions".

Michael Hametner has also been active as a speaker for audio recordings since 2005. From 2007 to 2009 he was a member of the jury for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize . Until 2015 he was literary editor and presenter at MDR-Figaro . Since 2008 he has been a member of Bührnheim's Literature Salon .
