Klaus Schröter (literary scholar)

Klaus Max Paul Schröter (born July 3, 1931 in Königsberg ; † January 2017 in Hamburg ) was a German literary scholar and literary historian .

Klaus Schröter was the son of Hans Schröter and Ilse Schröter born. Brummund.

From 1957 to 1969 he worked at the University of Hamburg on bibliographies by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock . In 1961 he was with a dissertation on Heinrich Mann to Dr. phil. PhD . 1966/1967 he was an associate professor at Stony Brook University in the college network of the State University of New York .

From 1969 to 1972 he was a professor of comparative literature at Columbia University , where he was also a consultant for German language and literature in the preparation of the New Columbia Encyclopedia . He was then a professor at Stony Brook University until 1981 and was visiting professor at the University of Hamburg (1974/1975) and at the Universiteit van Amsterdam (1976/1977).

From 1982 he was editor of publications at Rowohlt Verlag .

Klaus Schröter was a member of the Germanistic Society of America and its secretary from 1972 to 1981. He was a member of the Goethe Society and the German Thomas Mann Society .
