history
The New Saxon Art Association is the successor to the Saxon Association for the Promotion of Fine Arts, founded in Dresden in 1828, to encourage artists , which was brought to life by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Johann Gottlob von Quandt . In 1946 the association had to stop its work due to a political decision.
On April 29, 1990, personalities from Dresden's art and culture scene met in the Semperoper to revive the Saxon Art Association. Among the founding members were u. a. the singer Gunther Emmerlich , the musician Professor Ludwig Güttler , Professor Johannes Heisig , painter at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts , Friedrich-Wilhelm Junge , actor at the Theater Dresdner Brettl , the painter and graphic artist Max Uhlig and Professor Udo Zimmermann , composer at the Dresden Center for contemporary music .
Originally located in the city center of Dresden, the Kunstverein moved in 2009 to the Festspielhaus Hellerau , European Center for the Arts , located in the garden city of Hellerau . Other associations and institutions of the Saxon art scene have their headquarters here, such as B. the German Werkbund , the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony and the Saxon Cultural Senate. In mid-2014, the association moved its office back to the city center and has since been located in the Wilsdruffer Vorstadt in the baroque building of the environmental center in Dresden .
