The Wilsdruffer Vorstadt is one of the suburbs of the city of Dresden and belongs to the statistical district of Wilsdruffer Vorstadt / Seevorstadt-West in the Altstadt district . It is located west of the inner old town in the direction of Wilsdruff . The suburb is bounded by the Elbe in the north, by the course of the former city wall along the Zwinger and Postplatz in the east, by Annenstrasse and Falkenstrasse (former Weißeritzmühlgraben) in the southeast and roughly the old Weißeritz river bed in the west. In the southwest, the outer Wilsdruffer suburb extends beyond the 26er Ring to Hirschfelder Strasse. The Wilsdruffer Vorstadt is located in the districts of Altstadt I and II .

The suburb was created outside the fortified old town in front of the Wilsdruffer Tor . In the early modern period , the Weißeritzmühlgraben flowed through the suburb , which supplied numerous mills and workshops with energy. At the Entenpfütze (Freiberger Platz) the town's foundling house was located in the 18th century , which was set up in the former Bartholomäus Hospital (Heilig-Geist-Spital, Lepersigenspital, Neues Maternihospital ). In front of it was the place of execution and opposite, in the current garden of the Elsa Fenske Home , the poor house. Next to it was Ehrlich's pen , a school for the poor . In the Wilsdruffer suburb there are several Dresden deserted areas , for example Fischersdorf and Poppitz .

The Wilsdruffer Vorstadt has a very extensive inventory of buildings. This ranges from historic farms to large office and event buildings from recent years. In the east, the Wilsdruffer Vorstadt merges seamlessly into the historic city center: the Semperoper and Zwinger are right on the border with the Wilsdruffer Vorstadt; the Zwinger as part of the old city fortress is a border structure. Along with Neumarkt and Wiener Platz, Postplatz is one of the places with extensive development planning.

In the north, the Neue Terrasse closes the Wilsdruffer suburb from the Elbe. The terrace consists of the Saxon state parliament , the Erlweinspeicher and the congress center and extends from Bernhard-von-Lindenau-Platz behind the Semperoper to the Marienbrücke.

Opposite the Kronentor of the Zwinger is the Schauspielhaus , the largest theater in Dresden , on Postplatz . In the immediate vicinity is the Dresden Stadthaus , which is one of the oldest buildings of modern architecture in Dresden.

In the further course of Ostra-Allee , which first leads along the Zwingerteich in the direction of Marienbrücke, the Press House is in the back of the Neue Terrasse. The Duchess Garden was laid out opposite the Zwingerteich , directly next to it was the box house of the first Dresden Freemasons' lodge To the three swords and Astraea to the green diamond . Other noteworthy buildings in Wilsdruffer Vorstadt are located along the 26th Ring, which runs around Wilsdruffer Vorstadt as a quarter circle: In the south, on Freiberger Straße, is the World Trade Center Dresden with an office tower and shopping arcade. A little further north is the Mitte am Ring thermal power station ( Könneritzstrasse ). Around the Dresden Mitte train station , which connects the Wilsdruffer Vorstadt and Friedrichstadt to numerous regional train lines, there are other buildings, such as the Volkshaus Dresden and the Wettiner Gymnasium on Wettiner Platz , the seat of the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden .

The main traffic hubs are Dresden Mitte train station in the west and Postplatz in the east. They are connected by tram lines 1 and 2 and bus line 75 along Schweriner Strasse. Furthermore, tram line 12 runs on Freiberger Strasse between Postplatz and World Trade Center and tram line 11 on Ostra-Allee between Postplatz and the Haus der Presse. The tram lines 6 and 10 touch the Wilsdruffer Vorstadt via the 26er Ring ( Bundesstraße 173 ).
