history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1373 in the feudal book of Friedrich des Strengen. The place name goes back to the Old Sorbian personal name "Borisław" and means "On / on the mountain settlement of a Boraš, Boreš or the like". However, the spelling has changed over time. The village was called “Bornsberg” in 1378 because the personal name was no longer known and the place name was based on the Middle High German “Born” for “fountain, source, water”. In 1414 the place was called "Bursenberg" and in 1465 "Borsperg". Twelve years before that, a "Simon Borschbergk" was called, in 1476 the place was then called "Porsberg". For 1502 the form “Barßberg” is documented, 1547 and 1617 “Porschberg” or “-bergk”. Before today's official spelling was introduced around 1900, “Po (h) rsberg” was also in use.

On January 1, 1994, Borsberg merged with eight other communities to form Schönfeld-Weißig, which was incorporated into Dresden on January 1, 1999.
