Großzschachwitz is a district of Dresden on the border with Heidenau . Together with Sporbitz , it forms the statistical district of Großzschachwitz in the Leuben district .
geography
Großzschachwitz is located between the districts of Niedersedlitz , Sporbitz, Leuben and Kleinzschachwitz . Großzschachwitz is separated from Kleinzschachwitz in the northeast by the Lockwitzbach . In the northwest, the borders are Berthold-Haupt-Strasse and the Dresden margarine factory or the VEM-Sachsenwerk (an electric motor factory), in the west the Strasse des 17. Juni, the skyscrapers in Niedersedlitz and the industrial area Bosewitzer Strasse.
The center is the Bahnhofstraße stop with the Günther department store (closed since December 2007, demolished in 2016) and the Zschachwitz Center .
The area is located near an old river Elbe and therefore has several gravel pits . In addition, today there are mostly loose housing developments and some field areas.
history
Großzschachwitz was first mentioned in 1350 as Schachwicz, in 1791 the name Großzschachwitz, which is still used today, appears.
Like all communities on Pirnaer Landstrasse, the place was completely devastated in times of war, most recently in connection with the Battle of Dresden in 1813. Farmers and cottagers rebuilt the place again and again until the 19th century.
In 1840 the congregation joined a school association with Kleinzschachwitz , and in 1897 a mutual church congregation. In 1890 the community was only able to show about 1/3 of the population of Kleinzschachwitz, but then developed into a heavily populated workers' residence at the turn of the century. In 1898 Großzschachwitz received its own school (92nd elementary school "An der Aue"). Around 1921, when Kleinzschachwitz was incorporated into Dresden, Großzschachwitz, Meußlitz and Sporbitz merged to form the municipality of Zschachwitz , which was incorporated into Dresden in 1950. From 1971 the prefabricated building area "Rathener Straße" was built.
Infrastructure
Großzschachwitz is connected to the surrounding area by the three bus lines 65, 86 and 88 of the Dresden public transport company , the city center can be reached by tram lines 2 and 6. There is also a connection to the Dresden S-Bahn with lines S1 and S2 at the stops Dresden-Niedersedlitz and Dresden-Zschachwitz. The district also has a school (92nd elementary school "An der Aue").
