Location of the Seevorstadt within the Dresden suburbs and Dresden

The Seevorstadt is one of the suburbs of the city of Dresden and is located in the old town district . The Prager Straße divides it into the Seevorstadt Ost and the Seevorstadt West . Both parts are assigned to the statistical districts of Wilsdruffer Vorstadt / Seevorstadt-West and Seevorstadt-Ost / Großer Garten and are located in the district of Altstadt I , z. Partly also in the district of Altstadt II .

The large main shopping street Prager Straße is located in Seevorstadt and at the end of it is Wiener Platz with the main train station .

The name of the district derives from several lakes, which later moat of the city walls were preceded by the south, including the Kaitzbach fed Jüdenteich . These water surfaces go back to the old bed of the Kaitzbach in the Seegraben , whose original mouth was west of the old town not far from the old Weißeritz mouth . The lakes themselves were drained from the late Middle Ages.

The southern gate in the Dresden city fortifications was the Seetor , to which the Seestrasse (now again called that today) led from the Altmarkt .

In the past, parts of the southern suburb also belonged to the suburb of the lake.

In the 19th century, after the parceling of de Villers' property from 1838 onwards, the English Quarter was built in the eastern Seervorstadt on the grounds of the garden and the adjoining works of the Palais Moszinska . Almost the entire quarter was destroyed by the air raids on Dresden and the clearing of the city, so that the Villa Salzburg, built in 1874 on Tiergartenstrasse opposite the main entrance of the Dresden Zoo, is the last building in the English Quarter, geographically, however, not towards the suburb of the lake, but to the neighboring one District Strehlen belongs.
